Wildfire smoke leads to more cancelled events in Ontario

There is a growing list of events that have been either postponed or halted altogether because of wretched air quality.

The FIFA Fan Festival at Nathan Phillips Square and at the University of Toronto are just two examples of Toronto celebrations that have been kiboshed due to plumes of wildfire smoke enveloping the city.  The City of Vaughan also cancelled its FIFA semi-final celebration planned for Assembly Park.

The City of Toronto also announced the closure of all wading and outdoor pools. In Mississauga, all outdoor pools and Let’s Play in the Park programs have been cancelled.

Meanwhile, the Rock the Park festival at Harris Park in London ended on Wednesday evening. And live racing at Woodbine Racetrack has also been put on hold.

Wildfires in northwestern Ontario and other areas of the province generated so much smoke that Toronto was ranked earlier this week as having the worst air quality of any city in the world.

Arts for Canadians Tomorrow Society created Toronto Spark to foster greater appreciation for underrepresented artistic communities. A rising tide of understanding lifts all of us.

Arts for Canadians Tomorrow Society is grateful to be held on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, that is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge our privilege to be gathered on this land, and commit to work with and be respectful to the Indigenous peoples whose arts and stories inspire us to bring communities together.
