Fans of a CBC police drama that explores identity and justice are in for a treat. Allegiance, starring Supinder Wraich, will be back for a second season. In today’s announcement, CBC and Lark Productions described the cop show as “CBCs most-watched new series of the 2023-24 season.”
Set in Surrey, B.C., the ensemble cast includes Wraich as a young police officer named Sabrina Sohal. In the first season, she was paired on the beat with a crusty, kind-hearted training officer named Vince Brambilla, played by Enrico Colantoni.
“We’re not afraid to be critical of the police,” show creator Anar Ali told the Toronto Spark earlier this year. “But at the same time, we want to be aspirational about what policing could be.”
According to a CBC and Lark Productions’ announcement, Season 2 will include storylines revolving around online gambling, tech janitors, and international schools. The show is already in production.
Sohal will join the serious crimes unit in the second season. Wraich’s character will be paired with a policing partner with a different approach. Detective Corporal Zak Kalaini, played by Samer Salam (The Expanse, The Boys), will appear as a regular character. Meanwhile, Sohal won’t give up on pursuing the man who framed her father, a high-profile federal politician.
Other members of the cast—Stephen Lobo, Adolyn H. Dar, David Cubitt, Crystal Balint, Toby Levins, Melanie Papalia, and Andres Joseph—will be back for the second season.
“Our creative team continues to raise the bar this season and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue to explore the lives of our characters and tell these important stories,” Lark Productions president Erin Haskett said in a news release.
